Deputy PM Chatchai warns of water shortage in 20 provinces

Praphorn Praphornkul

BANGKOK, 23 November 2018 (NNT) - The Deputy Prime Minister, Gen. Chatchai Sarikulya, said up to 20 provinces across Thailand will likely experience drought in the dry season.

The water shortage issue was raised again, after authorities earlier last month expressed concern over insufficient water levels in many dams for irrigating farmland during the coming cool season.

After a meeting on water management for next year, Gen. Chatchai said 20 provinces have been listed for greater care because some places there still do not have piped tap water provided by the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA).

These locations are in Chiang Mai, Sukhothai, Phetchabun, Uthai Thani, Nakhon Sawan, Suphan Buri, Chai Nat, Ang Thong, Sing Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Samut Songkhram, Chaiyaphum, Maha Sarakham, Khon Kaen, Loei, Roi Et, Surin, Buri Ram, and Nakhon Ratchasima.
