BANGKOK, 30th January 2019 (NNT) - The Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) is expecting more tourists this Chinese New Year, while confirming that Thailand is still among China’s most popular holiday destinations.

AOT President Nitinai Sirismatthakarn said today that 35,000 scheduled flights and around 800 charter flights are already expected to arrive at its six airports. They include Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang International Airports in Bangkok, as well as international airports in Phuket, Chiang Mai, Songkhla’s Hat Yai and Chiang Rai. This marks an increase of 7.2% in flight arrivals and a 4% increase in passenger volume from the same period last year, or 5.9 million travelers.

To handle the anticipated volume of passengers and flights during Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, AOT has scheduled additional immigration officers, interpreters, and airport custodians to work during the holidays. Several signs in Mandarin have been erected to assist Chinese tourists.
